Environmental Impact Assessments are governed by the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) and is a statutory requirement for the commencement of any activity listed under the 2014 EIA Listing Notices. Depending on the listed activities triggered, the assessment required can either consist of a Basic Assessment or a Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment.

WESST Consulting further specialise in prospecting and mining right applications in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act 28 of 2002). Our integrated approach and involvement during the planning phase, ensures that we meet the requirements of all the associated regulatory processes, whilst adding value to our clients.

An Environmental Management Program (EMPr) is a document which provides a description of the methods and procedures needed in order to mitigate and monitor environmental impacts identified as part of the environmental assessment. WESST Consulting specialise in the development of project specific EMPr’s in line with the principles of Integrated Environmental Management, as well as the National Environmental Management Act.

Environmental Auditing and Compliance monitoring is an essential part of post decision EIA follow-up and is required during the construction and operational phases of a project. Compliance monitoring provides clients with the level to which they comply with approved EMPr’s, Environmental Authorisations and other relevant permits and licences. Our Environmental Control Officers have vast experience enabling them to provide specialist advice, guidance with regards to environmental best practices, review of method statements and assisting with the successful implementation of mitigation measures included in EMPR’s. WESST Consulting provides on-site ECO’s in order to aid clients with compliance towards environmental authorisations, permits and licences.

A Water Use Licence is required for any water use listed in Section 21 of the National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998). WESST Consulting provides specialist input with regards to lodging of water use licence applications, as well as authority liaison and follow up.

WESST Consulting offers services related to waste management licences applications in terms of the requirements of the National Environmental Management Waste Act (Act No 59 of 2008). The act includes listed activities stipulated under category A or category B for which a waste management license application needs to be submitted to the relevant competent authority.

WESST Consulting provides environmental awareness training aimed at educating client employees and contractors with regards to general environmental management, compliance towards approved EMPR’s, compliance monitoring and the maintenance of ISO 14 001 Environmental Management Systems.
